We had hopped on a plane to head over to Ibiza for labor day weekend and unexpectedly we realized that Avicii would be performing on Sunday night at the Ushuaia Hotel. Right after trying to get in they told me I couldn’t bring my camera. YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Why the F not? Well after a very frustrating 10 minutes I end up walking 5 minutes back down the road to put my bag in a locker.
The security guy at the gate told me to go down to the grocery store and for 20 euro they would watch my stuff. Fat chance in hell I’d be doing that. I mean how shady can you get? 20 euros to watch my DSLR Canon camera in a Long Champ back pack. Guaranteed I would have never seen it again and there would have been nothing I could do about it.
So I went with actual lockers down the road for 3 euro. We walk inside. Take a look at the picture below. Literally EVERYONE had their cameras with them. Apparently they just didn’t want me to bring mine. Anyway, after being pretty upset for a couple of minutes I decided to have a gin and tonic and forget about it.
Right before Avicii was supposed to go on stage I ran to the bathroom, so I wouldn’t miss any of the show.
While I was waiting in line this girl and I started chatting and it turns out her name is Andrea and she was born in America but raised in Guatemala and is currently in Madrid at graduate school. She was by herself because her friend she had come to visit was pregnant and didn’t want to deal with the crowds (which makes a whole lot of sense).
I immediately dragged her back with us and told her she could hang out during the concert and that K would even lift her up on his shoulders so she could get some videos. She opens up her bag and pulls out a gopro, iphone 5, and a DSLR camera! This was complete insanity. Its a great thing that we found her because as it turns out she got some great pictures and sent them to me to use on my blog. All of the credit for all pictures in this post go to her, thanks Andrea!
Here is Avicii’s End of the Summer party seen through our eyes… right by the front of the stage!
With most DJ centric concerts there’s always plenty of lasers, cool screen backgrounds, smoke, and SO MUCH BASS. Always a good assault for the senses.
Can anyone guess which song he opened with? If you win you get 5 points. What can you do with these 5 points? Consult Whose line is it anyway for rules and regulations.
Everybody had their phones out during the performance. At least there was a cool breeze being blown down onto the crowd so we weren’t dripping in sweat.
Lights, Camera, Action!
This must be what it looks like when you have sharks with lasers strapped to their heads.
And for the finale, they had a guy with a water jet pack doing flips and shit over the outdoor pool. I wasn’t sure if it was Tony Stark himself coming to say hello. If only I could get my hands on one of these jet packs, O baby!
What came out of all this? Well we had an amazing night Sunday night watching Avicii perform at his end of the summer party and I met an amazing woman who is living in Madrid, getting a graduate degree, that grew up in Guatemala. No matter what anyone tells you, its not the money and riches that are important in life, its the experiences, friendships, and different cultures you meet along the way. I wouldn’t trade these experiences for the world!

I’m glad you met my beautiful daughter Andrea in Ibiza. Greetings from Guatemala. Ricardo Prado
Ricardo, you're daughter is wonderful! We had a great time at the concert. She even gifted me one of the camera straps her cousin makes in Guatemala. I love it!
