I’m always playing catchup it seems. Its been a month since I went to America and I’m not even there yet. Plenty more great stuff coming your way and we better get right into it.
Already with 2 events on Saturday you’d think I’d want to sit and home and recover all of Sunday. ehh, you can sleep when you’re dead right?!
So I asked Megan if she wanted to do some boating down the Amalfi coast. If you want one of the big boats you got to go to the right people. Its a great thing I know just the right ones because they are always up for a party or a day boating.
On Saturday we were headed to Ale’s luau, which included delicious food, even more delicious drinks served out of full pineapples, and a party at the beach.
Afterwards it was a race against the clock to rush home and get ready for a Wetting down, my favorite kind of party!
What’s a wetting down you ask?
It’s a PARTAY, thrown by a newly promoted officer. When an officer makes the next rank they are supposed to take the difference in pay between the ranks and throw a party in celebration for the promotion.
It was Alaina’s Party as she had just been promoted to Lieutenant and it was about to be a Great Gatsby evening, and in a castle, say what?!
Wouldn’t it be so bad ass to point over at a castle and say, “My humble abode.” At first I thought this is where they live, but it turns out there is more than one castle on this hill.
& here is the wonderful lady herself, the newly pinned Lieutenant standing with her husband.
While he pours her a glass of the good stuff of course! There’s good news, plenty of money between ranks for a fancy party.
Checking out the food spread inside the house.
Can you believe they live here, in a castle?
Taking you back in time to the 1920’s, where it all was coming together out on the balcony.
The view from her house. One thing I’ll never get used to are these views.
A cheers to Alaina from the castle rampart!
All the lovely ladies in their getup. It was a rip-roaring good time 🙂
While Alaina was giving us a tour of the house we ended up on the rampart ourselves taking in the beauty of the city.
Alaina & I at the castle. After good conversation, high class drinks and snacks, we all went home happy at the end of the night.
The next morning we were up and at it bright and early. Headed down the Amalfi coast by boat. Get some.
After leaving the port in Salerno, we headed around the bend and came upon this bridge. Its supposedly one of the famous photographs of the Amalfi Coast road. But from the other side, and during sunset.
A couple of weeks back I recognized this same bridge from a video of a cliff diving competition and immediately was excited to get the chance to explore when we were boating.
I scraped my car on this stretch of Amalfi Coast road just as it bends on the right side. Poor Cammy!
Could you imagine living in the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast road, in this house? This place probably costs a small fortune.
You can see the swimmers poking their heads out of the opening down there.
As we drove farther down the coast, I saw that huge cliff in the rocks and wanted to zoom in for a closer look.
You can see the stalactites but no bats or vampires so I think we’re all in the clear.
I never get old of the beauty of this coast or the surrounding area. wow.
Stopping for a swim break, other Italian families were doing the same thing.
Inside these rocks it wasn’t so choppy which is always nice. There can be very choppy waters when you sail down the coast because its not protected by much.
Is that a mermaid?! After the swim break they let me drive the boat. I was doing a find job until the only 2 guys onboard decided to do an emergency evacuation… without telling me!
I’m driving full speed through the water and one second they are sitting on the bench right in front of me and the next they are both jumping opposite directions in the water.
I got my pay back when I turned around to go get them and I flew past letting the from the boat wake hit them in the face. hehe.
Coming up on Amalfi, we decided to anchor out and take the water taxi into town for some food. For only 10 euros both ways they will come pick you up in boats and take you to shore. Its a pretty good deal.
Walking around in town trying to find a good place for a late lunch.
Still searching.. most places have already closed for the afternoon and will reopen later for dinner. Luckily Amalfi is pretty touristy so we were convinced we’d find something.
Maybe there is a place down here that we can stop at? Needless to say we did find a place by the water, had a quick lunch as they were about to be closing down too and then we were headed back to the boat so we could sail back up the coast.
Going back to the water taxi, so we can get a ride back to the boat.
Naturally we decided to stalk up on some beer and its not a proper Italian meal without some gelato.
Fun Fact: Nastro Azzuro brewery is named after the amalfi coast road. Nastro Azzuro means blue ribbon and that was once the name of the Amalfi Coast road.
Will was really excited to have some beer and to be headed back to the boat.
Stopping at a different place for a swim break on the way home.
Lisa doesn’t go anywhere without her noodle!
Once we got back to Salerno we started the drive back finding this restaurant along the coast called Stone. It was a delicious place to stop and eat dinner. Not too expensive, plenty of seafood options, you can’t go wrong.
A fiery setting of the sun was the perfect compliment to our day spent on the water.
