Guys, first and foremost, I would never write about or recommend this pizzeria to you if it wasn’t the most bomb thing in the world! I’m dead serious. I wouldn’t tell you it’s amazing just because it was in the movie “Eat Pray Love” I mean they used the same pizzeria mentioned in the book when they were filming for Pete’s sake.
I waited to go to L’Antica da Michele until the last week after two years living in Italy and it was a big mistake. I should have been beforehand because I definitely would have been back, again, and again, and again…
Yes, it is the pizzeria from Eat Pray Love, but that’s not what keeps the place packed from sun up until sun down. It has everything to do with the decadent Neapolitan pizza served within. Besides when we went, it wasn’t some tourist trap, the pizza is still cheap, it was all Italians waiting in line, this place is full of history in a magnificent sort of way that came before movie fame and continues after.
A little snippet from the movie, them actually inside eating pizza.
When you first arrive, you walk up to the door and get a number, then you step back and wait your turn in that haphazard Italian sort of way. We went across the street and ordered drinks at a bar and sat outside to wait for our number. It didn’t take more than 40 minutes.
Inside you can see the place is jam packed, but it is also very small. It’s that brick oven right over there that is the brains of the operation, and will continue to be for many more years to come.
I love that a little bit in the spotlight has not changed these guys one bit, that’s the Italian way.
There’s the menu. You can get a pizza and a beer for less than 10 euro. The standard cost for a pizza in Naples is 5 euro. These guys are the best and they don’t even upcharge!
Pizza pies are flying around all over the place. When you are seated you are squeezed in beside other guests, and it’s the perfect time to strike up a conversation. Our side mates were from Northern Italy and told us they stop by this pizzeria every time they are in Naples. After you take the first bite, you’ll see why.
Just beside us on the wall was the photo of Julia Roberts with the pizzeria crew. No flashing lights, just an 8×10 on the wall.
Mamma Mia, pizzeria! So F*cking good. Seriously.
After I eat this can I have another? I was tempted that’s for sure.
Now you don’t! There wasn’t a crumb left to spare.
You can’t end the day unless you stop for a Gelato, everyone knows Italian gelato is the best, or maybe I’m just a little biased.
I always go for coconut gelato in Italy because it is so good and something chocolatey. Oh man what a day.

That pizza looks amazing! I love that it was in the movie Eat, Pray, Love and that it's as good as you thought it would be. I love the before and after shot - not a crumb left.
